The Morning Shotgun/Throwdown (2/5/08)

It’s a beautiful day in this neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor. Would you be mine? Could you be mine? Well By-Godders, it is an unseasonably warm day here in Charleston and I’m in a good mood. Granted I have not started to work yet so my attitude may soon change.

Signing Day is almost here and I couldn’t be more excited. In just over 24 hours we will see how good of a recruiting staff we really have when JJ announces his decision.

What You (May Have) Missed: (Song Titles by Mr. Rogers)

  • I’m Still Myself Inside: Bob Knight may be the most hypocritical person on the face of the earth. He preaches discipline, respect, and never quit attitude. He just quit in mid-season…
  • Everybody’s Fancy: Marquette shoots 32 percent from the field and falls again to Louisville. This U of L team is pretty damn good now that they are healthy and kids aren’t getting suspended.
  • Let’s Think of Something…: Clemens finally gets a chance to lie under oath on Capitol Hill today. I now hate Roger Clemens almost as much as I hate Pete Rose.

Video of Disinterest:
It’s Such A Good Feeling

What To Watch:

  • Tree, Tree, Tree: G-Town – 19.5 v. USF Georgetown’s Roy Hibbert should dominate South Florida’s big man Gransberry.
  • I’m Taking Care Of You: Florida + 9.5 at Tennessee The Vols should win this game and cover.

  1. Hey,

I am hearing that Rita and the kids are staying in Morgantown…..that Rich got caught with his hand in the proverbial “lady” cookie jar…….it is the buzz in Charleston….so why aren’t you guys on it……

  2. First of all I’m not on “it” because because Rita needs some leather conditioner and is too old for me, I wouldn’t hit that with Mike Brown’s who-who dilly.

Second, when we hear something more than rumor it will be up. We have a reputation of bad journalism to hold up on this site and we take pride in that.

  3. She’s in Morgantown because the kids are finishing the school year in Morgantown.

  4. Who gives a rat’s a$$ where the Crypt Keeper is living, or who Fraud is rumored to be diddling. Just gives us our money, that’s all I care about.

Also, even if we don’t get JJ, I don’t think that it is an indictment against our ability to recruit. We’ve managed to make it a two horse race, which is pretty good given the circumstances. As much as we hate to admit it, Ohio State is a pretty big draw for an 18 year old kid.

  5. Sure, Knight has anger problems, but I respect a man that doesn’t pander to the media or succomb to society’s demand to be politically correct. Praising Knight yesterday on TV: Digger Phelps, Rick Pitino, Dick Vitale, Bill Self, Coach K, and DAN DAKICH.

  6. On the same post where you tell readers on a daily basis which team to pick against the spread, you express a hatred for Pete Rose. That’s baffling.

  7. Stephen, DUCK ……SCHALAP you got hit with a shoe

I’M NOT COACHING IN OR PLAYING IN THOSE GAMES AND I DO NOT TRY AND HIDE THE FACT THAT I AM DOING IT.

PETE LIED TO MILLIONS OF LITTLE KIDS LIKE ME SAYING THAT HE DID NOT BET ON BASEBALL AND I BELIEVED HIM. CHARLIE HUSTLE AND DALE MURPHY WERE MY HERO’S AS A KID. FUCK PETE ROSE

  8. I have no clue why I brought up Dale Murphy I blacked out there for a second.

  9. One last shot and I’m done.

An old priest lay dying in the hospital.
For years, he had faithfully served the people of Morgantown, WV, the home of West Virginia University. He motioned for his nurse to come near.
    “Yes, Father?” asked the nurse.
“I would really like to see former WVU coaches Rich Rodriguez and John Beilein before I die.”
“I’ll see what I can do father.” replied the nurse.

The nurse sent the request to the coaches, in care of the University of Michigan, and waited for a response. Soon the word arrived: Both would be delighted to visit the priest.

As they went to the hospital, followed by a large contingency of the press, Rich leaned over and whispered to John, “I don’t know why the old priest wants to see us, but it will certainly help our images.” John couldn’t help but agree.

When they arrived at the priest’s room, the press crowded around and the priest took Rich’s hand in his right hand and John’s hand in his left. There was silence and a look of serenity on the old priest’s face.

Finally Rich, smiling and looking at all the press, spoke.
“Father, of all the people you could have chosen, why did you choose us to be with you as you near the end?”

The old priest slowly replied, “I have always tried to pattern my life after our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.”

    “Amen” said Rich.

    “Amen” said John.

The old priest continued, “He died between two lying thieves, and I would like to do the same.”

  10. I, too, grew up loving Pete Rose. But I guess the difference between me and 5th year senior is that I never, ever believed Pete Rose. I guess that was due to my superior schooling in the 25314 when compared to the Valley.

And Dale Murphy? You might as well have cheered for Rob Deer or Steve Balboni.

  11. Whoa! I was trying to stay out of this, but I’ve had all I can stand. Comparing Dale Murphy to Steve Balboni? I HATE the Braves, but I was a big Dale Murphy fan.

Seven time all-star, two MVP’s, five Gold Gloves. Rob Deer? Well, he did hit 33 home runs in 1986. Steve Balboni? His best season was 1985. He hit 36 homeruns and finished 19th in MVP voting.

    5th Year, thorow another shoe!

  12. *throw

    damn my fat, lazy fingers

  13. out of all the players we have coming in…who does eveyone think will make an immediate impact?

    p.s PETE ROSE RULES!!!
