Was It All A Bad Wet Dream?

After only a couple hours sleep, I woke up from the drug induced comma hoping that it was Thursday morning. Unfortunately, it is Friday and we are a sub .500 team. From the moment I stepped out of bed I have been shaking my head in disbelief. Did we really just get beat 17-14? We are supposed to win a 17-14 game, that is WVU’s famous score.

I still have not received much clarity of thought about what occurred last night. I’m angry, disappointed, embarrassed, and I feel bad for our players who left it all out on the field only to be done in by poor coaching. The players should not be ashamed of their performance last night. The coaches should have their tails tucked between their legs like a dog that shit on the new carpet.

When I say players should not be ashamed, it does not mean they played the perfect game. The O-Line got dominated on third and short opportunities and the secondary still looked confused at times. What I’m saying is that the team came out with intensity and showed massive improvement from previous weeks. Did the coaches “coach’em up” or are they succeeding because of their raw talent? Only time will tell.

The coaching was vomit inducing. Any ten year old playing Playstation and X-Box can manage the clock better than HCBS. Why leave a timeout on the board? Did HCBS think there was a 5th quarter? Why not run a naked bootleg, with the FB or TE sneaking into the flat on those third and short opportunities? Shouldn’t you give Devine a quick breather on 2nd down rather than have him be too tired to carry the ball on the most important play of the game? The head coach should be in the huddle when the players are about to take the field for the most important play of the game.

I could go on and on about HCBS’s mistakes but I don’t want to punch the guy in the cubicle next to me again so I’m going to end with some notes I took during last night’s game.

Jesse Palmer is a huge pussy. He thought every WVU hit was illegal or late. If the only way you can get laid as an NFL player is by going on The Bachelor, you are a loser. Go wear cut off jean shorts you idiot.

There were multiple times the ESPN announcers laughed at the WVU coaching mistakes. They commented numerous times about how HCBS was looking like a lost old man on the WVU sidelines. It was an embarrassment to the entire state.

I’m going to interpret this quote from HCBS. After the game he said, “I don’t second guess….I absolutely wouldn’t change a thing.” What I hear, “I’m fine with losing because golly gee willieackers I love this great group of young men. As long as I’m proud of them we are undefeated in my heart. We can just play a bowl game at our practice facility and the season will be a success” WTF! Strap in for a long season.

Patrick White is the best player in Mountaineer sports history. Better than West, Major, and Hot Rod. I feel really bad for that young man right now. He puts his heart and soul into every thing he does. He plays every play like it is the last snap he will ever take. Thank you Patrick, keep it up, we are still behind you.

  1. Pat White is truly remarkable. Devine is too.

  2. I agree with your assessment of the players. They laid it all on the line. They played their asses off.

We ALL need to stand in support of the players.

  3. Better than West??? And to be quite honest, the Maj would have more yards rushing and could throw the ball field better.

  4. Sad to say, but I totally agree with your assessment. However, something tells me that HCBS is still the right man for the job. Only time will tell. How easily we forget that RR took over a pretty good Mountaineer team only to go 3-8 his first season as HC. There are going to be growing pains for sure.

  5. If makes me sick to see Pat White’s talent squandered by HCBS.

  6. It’s a goddamn shame to see PW have his senior season ruined like this. One of the reasons folks were glad to see RR go was that the bubble screens and sweeps on every other down would go with him. Last night, the lack of creativity really screwed the pooch. I’m disgusted.

Also, what the hell Bradley Starks? What the hell.

These nationally televised games are really going to help with recruiting. Pat White…no good deed goes unpunished. It’s an unbelievable shame.

  8. The Major and West are better than PW, sorry.

  9. Let’s not forget that Pat White lobbied for HCBS to get the job. Sometimes you get what you asked for.

  10. He is a kid that was betrayed by his coach (RR). Besides a player should have no say in the coaching decision!

  11. I usually never agree with the announcers doing our games but last night they were spot on. Oh well…….. Look at the money we saved not hiring a proven coach. I guess after six years of HCBS we will once again be happy going 7-6 and flocking to the Texas bowl. Do you think Tajh Boyd and Logan Heastie will be happy playing pitch and catch in the backfield never throwing the ball past the line of scrimmage ? I think not . This thing is coming apart at the seams very quickly. I wonder if HCBS can sing……. at least Gomer could.

  12. I think the biggest difference from the Fiesta Bowl last year up until now is the Offensive Coordinator. Calvin McGee then, Jeff Mullen now.

  13. I think we all agree.

    Experienced OC versus rookie OC.

  14. Don’t criticize players, blah blah blah….

Mike Dent fucking sucks. The entire o-line was more vastly overrated coming into this season than Pitt. Getting stuffed on 3rd and short over and over and over is an embarrassment. How many times does a Noel Devine run up Mike Dent’s ass resulting in 0-1 yards going to have to happen before we scrap that terrible idea?

  15. The O-line is not a “power line.” They were not made for short yardage up the middles situations. The coaches need to call plays that fit the personnel. Last game we tried to throw to much and we went back to our strength of running.

You don’t cut down a redwood after the first six months because it isn’t 70 feet tall. Stop being fucking Stewpid

  16. This team has my support 100%. The staff I think are getting through to the guys as witnessed by better play all around.

Stewart, however, has completely lost the staunch support I had for him before. He truely is in over his head. Can we get Baylor’s new coach? He runs the spread! 🙂
